Peel Season, Fa-La-La-La-La

Why is now the right time to get peels? Why do you see an abundance of salons and shops rolling out peel promos? Easy because science and biology. If you’ve known me long enough you know this is my favorite part of the nail and aesthetics industry. Let’s do a quick and easy dive!

So, peels. They do exactly as they sound: Peel. They peel the outer layers of skin to reveal healthy, clear skin. At least that’s the goal. Usually, a series of peel is needed to meet the goals of any given client. The peels available to consumers are potent and could be dangerous if used incorrectly. They could cause more damage than good if the client doesn’t adhere to proper home care afterwards. It’s a whole teamwork situation!

Back to why in the fall and winter are peels best done at those times. With peels you skin is super susceptible to more damage from UV sun rays. What is in abundance during spring and summer?? You guessed it, SUN! Peels will break down your skin barrier on purpose to deliver the goal of fresh unblemished skin if done from beginning to end correctly. If a client were to disregard professional advice and go into the sun after a peel, the skin would react in defense and further deplete results by trying to defend itself. Hyperpigmentation would occur and do the opposite of the goals of the client and technician.

When in the fall and winter the daylight is cut down drastically, it’s ideal to get peels during this time. There’s less chance of opposing your skincare goals. As both the client and clinician team up to tackle the goals of clear beautiful skin, peels are very beneficial. On the plus side there are peels available with little to no down time. This way, skin goals are met progressively and over the course of a series of peels, rather than with deep penetrative peels the downtime is for sure a lot longer.

Just depending on you and your skincare goals, would determine the right peel for you! Get with an aesthetician that’s right for you and go from there. Trust the process and do the at home care necessary. Great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment!
